Acoustica and your DAW¶

When working in the DAW of your choice, you have multiple options for how to integrate Acoustica into your workflow.

ARA integration¶

For the tightest integration, use Acoustica as an ARA plug-in within your DAw. All versions of Acoustica can work as an ARA plug-in as long as your DAW is ARA-compatible. When working this way, Acoustica operates within and communicates with your DAW. Changes to your file are automatically updated into your DAW session, and can be undone within your DAW. Your Acoustica session settings are also saved within your DAW session file, allowing you to return to and modify previous changes.

When possible, we recommend using ARA in your DAW as it allows for the tightest integration and the most seamless workflow. Please see your DAWs documentation to determine if it can make use of ARA plug-ins.

When using ARA, it is best to render your changes once you are happy with them. Rendering will replace the file with a new file containing all of your changes. You can revert back to the original file within your DAW if needed.

There is no non-ARA Acoustica plug-in. If your DAW does not support ARA, see the below methods.

External Editor¶

Some DAWs will allow you to set Acoustica as an external editor. This allows you to quickly open a file from your DAW inside a standalone instance of Acoustica where you can make your changes. The changes are then written directly to the file so that they appear in your DAW.

When working this way, there is no integration between your DAW and Acoustica. Acoustica simply sees the file and makes changes to it, then your DAW reads the file. Because of this, the Undo function in your DAW will not revert changes made in Acoustica.

Standalone¶

Acoustica can of course be used as a separate standalone audio editor. To do so, simply navigate to your audio file on your computer, open it and make changes to the file as normal. Then save your changes or export a new file if you would like to keep the original file unchanged.

When working with Acoustica as a standalone editor, your DAW and Acoustica operate completely independently. Your Acoustica settings and changes will not be saved by or connected to your DAW in any way.
