In Logic Pro, ARA plug-ins are inserted as track effects and ARA plug-ins must be the first plug-in in the track insert chain.

Rosetta for ARA compatibility

On a Mac with an Apple Silicon processor, Logic Pro must be run using Rosetta for ARA plug-ins to work.

Please note: This is a limitation in Logic Pro rather than in Acoustica, and it applies to every ARA plug-in. Running natively on Apple Silicon, Logic Pro loads Audio Unit plug-ins outside its own process, and Apple does not support ARA in that mode. Opening Logic Pro under Rosetta loads them inside it again, which is what makes ARA available. Acoustica 8 itself runs natively on Apple Silicon either way.

Some Logic Pro features are unavailable while it runs under Rosetta, so you may prefer to switch back to native mode when you are not working with ARA. On Intel Macs no change is needed.

Step-by-step guide

The below guide explains how to set up ARA in Logic Pro. Be sure to follow the steps to set up Rosetta first before progressing to the rest of the guide.

Rosetta

First ensure you have opened Logic Pro in Rosetta.

  1. If Logic Pro is currently open, save and close it.
  2. Navigate to your Logic Pro application in the Applications folder.
  3. Right click Logic Pro and select Get Info.
  4. Toggle Open using Rosetta.
  5. Relaunch Logic Pro.

Using Acoustica ARA in Logic Pro

For this guide, we assume that you have set up a Logic Pro session with an audio file present on an audio track.

If you are unsure how to do so, please refer to the Logic Pro manual and user guides.

  1. Add Acoustica 8 (ARA) in the first audio effects slot on the channel containing the audio you would like to edit as shown below:

  1. Start and stop playback within Logic Pro. When editing and using ARA plugins in Logic Pro, starting and stopping playback is required to update any changes to files made within Acoustica and vice versa.

  2. Click the Acoustica 8 plugin slot to open Acoustica 8 ARA within Logic Pro. You can now make your edits and changes within Acoustica 8 as normal.

  3. Start and stop playback to update files and hear your changes.

Rendering your changes

Once you are happy with your changes, we recommend that you Render your changes. Doing so will create a new file containing all of your changes. You can revert back to the original unchanged file from within your DAW.

To Render your changes, use the Bounce In Place command:

  • Select Edit > Bounce or Join > Bounce Regions in Place...

Removing Event FX

Click the small up/down arrow graphic on the right side of the audio effect slow containing Acoustica 8 ARA. It will appear when you hover your mouse over the slot. From the menu, select No Plug-in.

Setting Acoustica as an External Editor

You can set Acoustica 8 as your preferred external editor within Logic Pro.

First, open the Logic Pro Settings menu.

Next, choose the Audio tab, and select File Editor on the right hand side. In the File Editor options, select Choose and navigate to your Acoustica 8 installation.

You can now select a clip, then navigate to Edit > Open in Acoustica 8 or press Shift + W to open the clip in Acoustica.
