Session Properties

The session properties define the musical grid of a multitrack session: its time signature and its tempo. Everything that works in bars and beats reads these values — the time ruler when the Bar:beat:tick time format is active, the snapping of clips while you drag them, and the beat divisions shown in the timeline.

Choose Session Properties... from the Session menu to open the dialog.

Settings

• Meter numerator

  The number of beats in a bar. Enter 3 for 3/4 time, 6 for 6/8 time, and so on.

• Meter denominator

  The note value that counts as one beat. Enter 4 for 3/4 time, 8 for 6/8 time.

• Tempo (BPM)

  The tempo of the session in beats per minute.

Set the tempo before you start placing clips if you intend to work to a grid. Changing the tempo afterwards moves the grid, not the clips that were already positioned against it.
