DeNoise¶

DeNoise 3 reduces noise such as hiss, wind noise, buzz and camera noise. As of Acoustica 8, DeNoise 3 integrates a new machine learning based mode that no longer requires noise profiles which allows for a faster workflow with reliable results. A manual mode is also provided, which functions as in DeNoise 2 and requires a noise profile in order to work.
We recommend using the Automatic mode when addressing standard broadband noise problems, and using Manual mode when required to tackle more complex noise problems.

Operating Modes: Automatic and Manual
- Near the top of the interface, you can select between the two modes offered in DeNoise 3:
- Automatic Mode
- Uses machine learning to automatically remove noise from the signal. We recommend starting with Automatic mode, as it will typically be more effective and faster.
- Manual Mode
- Uses Noise Profiles to remove noise, and provides more manual control for addressing more complex or atypical noise sources.
- Automatic Mode
- Near the top of the interface, you can select between the two modes offered in DeNoise 3:
The below settings are common to both Automatic and Manual modes.
- Noise Floor (dB)
This slider, on the left side of the interface, sets the maximum amount of attenuation that DeNoise 3 is able to use. If you hear artifacts after removing hum, try reducing the maximum amount of attenuation by raising this slider until artifacts are no longer audible.
- Reduction Curve
DeNoise 3 provides a reduction curve with low shelf, mid bell, and high shelf filters available to shape the sensitivity of the reduction algorithm. The filters can be toggled by clicking the filter buttons in the bottom left of the Reduction Curve graph, beside the Mid Side button. In the below image, a mid bell filter is active.

We can also see a green circle at the peak of the bell filter, with corresponding arrows and handles at each side. Left click and drag the circle to change the frequency and gain of the filter. Click and drag the arrows to adjust the Q width of the filter. Click and drag the handles to change the slope shape of the filter.
- M/S Mode

The Mid / Side (M/S) mode is only available when working with source material in stereo and it avoids drifting in the stereo image after processing. When enabled, the incoming audio is converted to a M/S signal prior to processing and decoded back to normal left / right stereo at the output.
The Mid / Side button is found along the bottom of the visualization graph in each mode.
- Solo Noise

Enable this option if you wish to monitor the signal removed by the noise reduction algorithm.

Manual Mode settings¶
Manual mode relies on Noise Profiles to remove noise, and provides a number of controls to modify its operation.
Noise Profile Section
The first step is to measure the noise to remove using the learn button, indicated below with a red arrow:

Toggle the Noise Profile button. It will turn yellow. Now play a section that contains the noise you want to remove in your host application. No noise reduction is performed when the learning mode is activated. After playing the section containing noise, toggle the Noise Profile button again. It will turn dark blue to indicate that it has captured a profile.
Noise Profiles can also be saved and loaded via the DeNoise Menu in the top right of the interface:

Clicking the Menu button will open a dropdown where you can Save and Load noise profiles.
- Soft knee (%)
The soft knee parameter reduces the steepness of the transition between noise and the wanted signal. Higher soft knee values result in a more natural transition.
- Reaction time (ms)
The reaction time controls the maximum time for the algorithm to respond to level changes in each frequency band. Longer reaction times effectively reduces tonal and burst-like processing artifacts.
