Why Upgrade To Acoustica 8
Acoustica 8 is the most significant update in our 25-year history — and rather than just adding new tools, it also rebuilds how you work with many of the ones you already know. Below is a breakdown of exactly what's new in each edition, so if you're already using Acoustica 7 you can see precisely what you'd be getting for your upgrade money — not a recap of features you already own.
In this article, we're not talking about features that simply carry over from previous versions — the kind of thing you'd pick up just by moving up a tier. It's also worth remembering what doesn't change when you upgrade: Acoustica 8 is a perpetual license, just like every previous version. You pay once, you own it — no subscription, no recurring fees, and no risk of losing access to your tools if you decide to skip a future update.
What's New in Acoustica 8
The following improvements apply whichever tier you're upgrading to — Standard, Premium or Ultimate all get these as standard.
A Complete Interface Redesign
Acoustica 8 starts every session differently, with a new launch page designed to get you working faster instead of navigating menus first. Once you're in, Processing Tools now live in a dockable pane you can arrange however suits you, and the toolbar itself can be rearranged and customised per workflow. If you're running a fast turnaround on a podcast episode, you can build a toolbar around your go-to cleanup chain; if you're mastering a record, you can swap in your mixing and mastering tools instead — without either setup getting in the other's way. It's the kind of change that pays off every single session, whatever kind of audio work you do.
Latest Restoration Technology
Brand new in Acoustica 8, DeNoise 3 and DeHum 3 now run on new machine-learning models, which means you no longer need to capture a noise profile before you can start processing. For anyone doing location dialogue or voiceover cleanup, a clean "noise-only" section to sample from is often the hardest thing to find, so removing that step outright saves real time on every job. It also helps on the music side — restoring a noisy vintage transfer or a live recording is faster and the results are cleaner. Other audio repair plug-ins DeClip 3 and DeClick 3 also get refreshed interfaces in this release.
One thing worth flagging: Acoustica Standard ships with a stripped-down version of DeNoise 3 that doesn't include the automatic mode available further up the range — more on that below.
Enhanced Spectral Editing
Our spectral editor picks up several precision upgrades in Acoustica 8. The repair engine behind AudioFill has been rebuilt to fill much larger time regions with natural-sounding generated content, extending what used to be a small-gap tool into something you can reach for on bigger repairs too. Adjustable Time and Frequency Feathering gives you direct control over how a spectral edit blends into the surrounding audio, smoothing the transition so repairs sit invisibly rather than announcing themselves — valuable for anything from a surgical dialogue fix that can't afford to be heard, to a spot repair on a finished master where any trace of the edit would be unacceptable.
A new Stereo View maps stereo placement onto the spectrogram in colour, so you can spot and fix balance issues visually rather than relying on your ears alone — useful whether you're checking a stereo music mix or a dialogue recording for phase and placement problems. Select Similar finds spectral regions that share characteristics with a selection you've already made, which is a fast way to track down every instance of a repeated noise — a recurring click, a hum, a mic bump — across a whole file rather than hunting for each one by hand.
Why Upgrade to Acoustica 8 Premium
As a reminder, Premium / Ultimate tiers is where Acoustica's internal modules also become available as DAW / NLE plug-ins — 23 of them in total with Premium — so you have the freedom to use our tools outside the Acoustica environment. To be clear, that's unchanged from previous versions, but it's worth keeping in mind as the baseline everything below builds on.
So, in addition to the new features described above, Premium in Acoustica 8 adds:
Extract:Dialogue 2. This landed in Acoustica 7 Premium back in December 2025, so if you bought or upgraded after then you may already have it — but for anyone who bought Acoustica earlier, or is upgrading now, this will be something new. Extract:Dialogue 2 separates the spoken voice from difficult background noise using deep learning, and gives you independent sliders and sensitivity controls for voice, noise and reverb, so you can dial in exactly how aggressive the separation is rather than accepting a single fixed result.
Drum Production Suite. This includes our Remix:Drums and DeBleed:Drums which together cover AI-powered drum stem separation and bleed removal — splitting a drum recording into individual stems (kick, snare, hi-hat, cymbals, toms and more) and cleaning up unwanted bleed between mics. It's squarely a music production tool, most useful when you're remixing a live drum recording, salvaging stems that were never delivered separately, or just tightening up a drum bus that picked up too much spill.
The full version of DeNoise 3, with automatic mode. Where Standard gets the stripped-down version, Premium unlocks the complete tool, automatic mode included — meaning Acoustica can analyse the material and set the reduction itself rather than requiring manual tuning on every file. That's a real time-saver whether you're batch-processing a season of podcast episodes or working through a stack of noisy source recordings for a music project.
Why Upgrade to Acoustica 8 Ultimate
Ultimate is what used to be called the Post Production Suite, and the positioning is simple: it contains every Acon Digital plugin, with nothing held back. You get everything in Premium, plus:
9.1.6 channel support, including Dolby Atmos. This is the headline addition for anyone delivering immersive audio — film and TV mixers working to modern immersive specs get a tool that can actually handle the channel count, and it's increasingly relevant on the music side too, as more releases get mixed for Atmos and other object-based formats.
Verberate 2 Immersive — brand new to the Acoustica range, and one of the standout additions in Ultimate. This is a spatial reverb built for object-based, immersive mixes, letting you place and shape ambience across a 9.1.6 bed rather than just widening a stereo signal. If you're delivering Atmos or other object-based immersive work, it's a seriously useful tool.
DeFilter, also with a UI update in this release. Same story: an existing tool for automatically addressing mix problems, resonances and tonal imbalances, now easier to work with day to day.
Six months of Soundly Pro included. This bundles a sound library and search workflow directly into your toolkit — a genuinely useful addition for sound design and foley work, and handy for any project that needs quick access to library sound rather than only field-recorded or synthesised material.
