Acoustica 8 for Linux — Public Beta

This page is for beta testers that want to help testing the Linux versions of Acoustica 8

Acoustica 8 now runs on Linux, and we would like you to try it. This is a public beta. The application and plug-ins are complete and offer the same functionality as on macOS and Windows. If you are new to Acoustica, start with the Acoustica product page.

Who can take part

Anyone with a valid license key for any Acoustica 8 edition (Standard, Premium or Ultimate). Additionally, new users can test Acoustica 8 for 30 days. The Linux build reads the same key as your other computers and unlocks exactly the same edition, so there is nothing extra to buy and nothing to sign up for. Please enter your key the first time Acoustica starts and you should be all set.

The application package also includes Acoustica 8 ARA, which works in REAPER for Linux. All packages are for 64-bit Intel and AMD processors (x86-64).

Download the plug-ins for other audio applications

The plug-ins from the Premium and Ultimate editions come in a package of their own, acoustica-plugins. Each plug-in is included as both VST3 and LV2, so you can use them in Ardour, REAPER, Bitwig Studio, Carla, Qtractor and other Linux hosts. You don't need this package to use the tools inside Acoustica, because Acoustica already contains them. You can also install the plug-ins without installing Acoustica.

Premium Edition plug-ins: DeNoise 3, DeHum 3, DeClick 3, DeClip 3, DeBird, DeClick Dialogue, DeEss Dialogue, DePlosive Dialogue, DeBuzz Dialogue, DeWind Dialogue, DeRustle Dialogue, Extract:Dialogue 2, Remix, Remix Drums, DeBleed Drums, Equalize 2, Dynamics, Multiband Dynamics, Limit, Dither, Vitalize, Multiply 2, Verberate 2, Convolve and Phono Filter.

Additional Ultimate Edition plug-ins: DeVerberate 3, DeFilter and Verberate Immersive 2.

Your license decides which plug-ins you can use, the same as on Windows and macOS. An Acoustica 8 Premium license unlocks the Premium plug-ins, and an Ultimate license unlocks all of them. A license for an individual plug-in unlocks that plug-in. Plug-ins you have no license for run in demo mode, so you can try any of them before you buy.

Installing

Open a terminal in the folder you downloaded to, and install with your package manager.

Ubuntu and Debian:

sudo apt install ./acoustica_8.0.5-1_amd64.deb ./acoustica-plugins_8.0.5-1_amd64.deb

Fedora, RHEL, Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux:

sudo dnf install ./acoustica-8.0.5-1.x86_64.rpm ./acoustica-plugins-8.0.5-1.x86_64.rpm

To install only one of the packages, leave out the file you don't want. To update, install the newer package the same way.

The VST3 plug-ins are installed to /usr/lib/vst3/Acon Digital. The LV2 plug-ins are installed to /usr/lib/lv2 on Ubuntu and Debian, and to /usr/lib64/lv2 on Fedora, RHEL, Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux. Most hosts already look in these folders, so the plug-ins are found on the next scan.

Audio formats and codecs

WAV, Wave64, AIFF, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, Opus and MP3 files open directly. To open AAC, M4A and MP4 files, and the audio in video files, Acoustica uses the FFmpeg installed on your computer. If FFmpeg or a codec is missing, Acoustica tells you what to install. AAC files cannot be saved on Linux.

Current limitations

  • CD burning works, but it needs the libburn library from your distribution (on Ubuntu and Debian, sudo apt install libburn4).
  • In LV2 hosts, the plug-ins are stereo only. Verberate Immersive 2 supports multichannel audio only as a VST3. In generic host controls and automation lanes, parameters show a range of 0 to 1. Each plug-in's own window shows the actual values.
  • Touch gestures such as pinch to zoom and two-finger scrolling are not supported in Linux.

Acoustica plays and records through ALSA, JACK or PipeWire.
